Memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 1:00 PM at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church.

     CW04 (Ret.) Frank Edwin Rowan, 81 of Redfield, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on September 30, 2009.

He was born April 10, 1928 in New York City, New York to the late Frank E. Rowan and Christina Bieg Rowan.

He retired from the U.S. Army where he flew helicopters in Vietnam and served 16 years in the U.S. Navy prior. He earned a Purple Heart and was a POW. He served during WW II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Eilene Spellacy; and one infant son, Zachary Rowan.

He is survived by two sons, Frank Edwin Rowan III and wife, Cathy of Oakwood, Georgia; Zachary Rowan and wife, Elizabeth Ann of Redfield, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Travis Rowan and his wife, Spirit; Tiffany Amanda Tuck; Lucas Rowan and wife, Lacey; Jason Rowan and fiancée, Katie Sentner; Josh Rowan and wife, Carrie Anne; four great grandchildren, Rori Rowan, Liam Rowan, Lily Rowan and Davis Rowan; one brother, Paul Rowan and his wife, Sue of Branford, Connecticut and a host of other family and friends.

CW04 Rowan's cremains will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

She was raised in New York City and Pomfret, Conn., moving to Hampton in 1954.

She was an equestrian, tended her parents' general store and ice cream shop and created loving memories with her grandmother, Ella Benson, while living in Pomfret.

She was a homemaker and mother of four daughters. She participated in 4-H and Pony Clubs, was an accomplished cook, an organic gardener and an avid skier, swimmer and tennis player. She enjoyed sewing and needle arts, board and card games, loved the beach and the family camp in Otis, Maine.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Oceanside Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Francour wing whose attentive care and love was felt every day. They also acknowledge the support of Allegiance Hospice.

SERVICES: The family will receive friends Friday, June 26, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the First Congregational Church, 127 Winnacunnet Road, Hampton. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Deborah Knowlton, pastor, officiating. Jay Halloran will be the soloist.

A celebration of her life will be held from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Pelican Club, Galley Hatch Restaurant, Hampton.
