John Eaton Scott

     John Eaton Scott was born on 21 May 1857 in Chester County, Pennsylvania.1,2,3,4,5,6,7 He was the son of John Humphrey Scott and Margaret Amanda Wallace. He married Rebecca Agnew Sample, daughter of Molton Rogers Sample and Martha Letitia Knox, on 17 Apr 1884 at The Presbyterian Church of Coatesville, Coatesville, Chester County, Pennsylvania.8,9,10,11 John Eaton Scott died on 7 Nov 1927 at 568 Chestnut Street, Coatesville, Chester County, Pennsylvania, at age 70.12,13,14 He was interred on 11 Nov 1927 at Fairview Cemetery, Coatesville, Chester County, Pennsylvania, Lot 416 NE.13
     He lived with John Humphrey Scott and Margaret Amanda Wallace in 1860 at East Fallowfield Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania.15 John Eaton Scott resided with John Humphrey Scott and Margaret Amanda Wallace in East Fallowfield Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, in 1870.16 John Eaton Scott lived at the North side of Main Street, at Coatesville, Chester County, Pennsylvania, in 1880. He worked as a dry goods clerk.17 He was a clerk at Midvale Steel Company, Coatesville, Pennsylvania. He and Rebecca had no children.18 John E. Scott was appointed postmaster of the Pomeroy Post office on14 Sep 1885. When the Republican party took the president's office he was replaced on 13 Nov 1889 by William H. Leach, Jr. John was again appointed postmaster on 7 Aug 1893, and moved the post office to his general store in Stottsville.19 George H. Scott spent a great deal of time visiting John and Rebecca; so much that he was considered part of that family. In 1899, Rebecca's mother gave the book "The Boys of '61" to George H. Scott, and signed it:
"George H. Scott / From Grandma Sample / Xmas 1899". The book is now in the posession of Elizabeth Scott Waldron, great grand-niece of John E. Scott.20,21
He and Rebecca Agnew Sample lived at Sadsbury Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, along with their nephew George H. Scott in 1900.22 John Eaton Scott and Rebecca Agnew Sample lived at 618 Main Street, Coatesville, Chester County, Pennsylvania, along with their nephew George H. Scott in 1910.23 According to a 1964 newspaper article, John operated a store and post office in the Stottsville Tavern, in Pomeroy. This property was later inherited by his grand-nephew, John Eaton Scott, who sold it in 1939.24 John Eaton Scott and Rebecca Agnew Sample lived in the 4th Ward, in Coatesville, Chester County, Pennsylvania, in 1920.25

     Margaret Helen Scott was born on 12 Jul 1859 at Pennsylvania.2,3 She was the daughter of David Eaton Scott and Mary Ann Reid Wallace. Margaret Helen Scott married Dale Hamill on 25 Dec 1884.4 Margaret Helen Scott died on 16 May 1949 at Embreeville State Hospital, Embreeville, Chester County, Pennsylvania, at age 89.5,2 She was buried on 16 May 1949 at Faggs Manor, Chester County, Pennsylvania.5
     She resided with David Scott in Highland Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, in 1860.6 Margaret Helen Scott resided with David Eaton Scott and Mary Ann Reid Wallace in Highland Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, in 1870.7 Margaret Helen Scott resided with David Eaton Scott and Mary Ann Reid Wallace in Highland Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, in 1880.8 As of 25 Dec 1884,her married name was Hamill.
