He was deeply interested in historical studies, and has given to the public the results of his labors in his work entitled, "The Pilgrim Republic," an excellent work on the early history of the Old Colony, for which he had a special adaptation. He died at Lowell, Mass. , Sept. 21, 1884 , universally respected by those who knew him, and lies buried on this hill, which he took a great interest in.8,9
He lived in Providence, Providence County, Rhode Island, in 1850.6
He was Speaker of the House of Representatives in 1858, and Postmaster of Lowell in 1861, in which year he received the honorary degree of A. M. from Harvard College. He was a writer of note. In 1876 he wrote " a true story" entitled "The First of the LeBarons" which was published in "The Old Ladies' Piece Bag", a magazine issued for the benefit of "The Home for Aged Women", in Lowell, Mass.10
