     The following obituary appeared in the Long Island (New York) Newsday 28 Mar 2014 for Nancy McLaughlin:
     de BRUIN - Nancy M., Born May 11, 1929; Died March 23, 2014. Nancy de Bruin, born in Rockville Centre, New York in 1929 to Carroll and Catherine Mclaughlin, died of a sudden illness on March 23, 2014 at her winter home in Fort Myers, Florida. Nancy was raised in Freeport with siblings Barbara, Carol, and Bob. She attended Freeport High School where she was captain of the field hockey team and the cheerleading squad. She attended Skidmore College for one year and then went to work for Carroll McLaughlin's engineering firm, where she met Jim de Bruin who she married in 1951. Nancy and Jim made homes in East Meadow, Old Brookville, Southold and Fort Myers Florida. She is survived by sister Barbara, children Greg (married to Elaine Dawson), Karen (Brian Davis), Sue (Keith Taylor), Bob (Lisa Hendrickson); thirteen grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Nancy will be remembered as a woman of great class and dignity who was always comfortable with the person she was, and very grateful for the life she lived. A wake will be held at the Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue, NY from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 on Friday, March 28. A memorial mass will be held at St. Patrick's RC Church in Southold, NY on Saturday, March 29 at 11:00am. Donations in her honor may be made to The Fresh Air Fund or Habitat for Humanity.1
