Isaac Hill Jr

Isaac Hill, Jr.
Isaac Hill Jr was born on 13 Oct 1829 at West Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.1 He was the son of Isaac Hill and Lucinda Cutter.2 He married Eliza Ann Peabody, daughter of Nathaniel Peabody Jr. and Mary Gilcreast, on 20 Sep 1854 at Dracut, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.2,3 Isaac Hill Jr died on 1 Jul 1881 at Dracut, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, at age 51. The 2 July 1881 death notice in the Lowell Daily Courier indicated he died in Dracut on July 1 at the age of 51. The funeral would be at his late residence on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.

The 7 July 1881 issue -of the newspaper had this obituary and story -of the funeral:
"Obituary -- Dracut has to mourn the loss of one of her most respected citizens, Mr. Isaac Hill, who died of consumption on July 1, after a long illness most sweetly and patiently borne. He was a resident of Dracut from early infancy, and was most highly esteemed for his uprightness and probity, and loved for his many amiable qualities. We have to mourn a kind neighbor and faithful friend, and a just man; and his family, while they mourn his loss, can comfort their hearts with the thought that 'the memory of the just is blessed.'

The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends. The Rev. Mr. Berry of Pelham (NH) conducted the services in an eloquent and appropriate manner. All hearts were touched by the sight of the four manly sons who so tenderly bore their father to his last rest. The flowers contributed by the friends were especially beautiful. May the hope of a glorious immortality which brightened his last hours cheer us also when we come to the last earth."4,5
He was interred at Oakland Cemetery, on Mamoth Road, Dracut, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.5,6
Isaac was an infant when his father died. In the house on Mammoth Road there were no stoves and only candles to see by, and they were made at home. Cooking was done in a brick oven and all heating was from the open fires. Water was brought from a well down the road. The four children played on "Bumper Rock", and their only toys were bits of broken crockery for dishes or a picture cut out of someone's fashion plate, or whatever nature provided. But their imaginations were good and "Bumper Rock" was a house and different places on it were different rooms. It was near enough to Indian times so they played Indians were near (but actually that period was over). Miriam Dorcas was very small and slender. She used to jump rope on a barrel that was rolling down hill. There was not much money (practically none). Lucinda Junior studied tailoring for men and worked on their suits by candle light. She died at age twenty. Miriam Dorcas studied how to sew straw to make the big straw bonnets.7 He resided with Lucinda Cutter in Dracut, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, in 1850.8 Isaac Hill Jr and Eliza Ann Peabody lived in Dracut, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, in 1860. Also living with them, as a farm laborer, was Luther L. Richardson.9 Isaac Hill Jr and Eliza Ann Peabody lived in Dracut, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, in 1870.10 Isaac Hill Jr and Eliza Ann Peabody lived in Dracut, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, in 1880.11
