     John Howland was born in 1602 at Fenstanton, Huntingdonshire, Barbadoes.2,1 He was the son of Henry Howland and Margaret (?)2 John Howland married Elizabeth Tilley, daughter of John Tilley and Bridget Van der Velde, a 1624 at Plymouth, Plymouth Colony.2,1 John Howland died on 23 Feb 1672/73 at Kingston (Rocky Nook), Plymouth Colony.3,4,5 He was buried at Burial Hill, Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Gravestone Inscription:
Here ended the Pilgrimage of JOHN HOWLAND who died February 23, 1672/3 aged above 80 years. He married Elizabeth daughter of JOHN TILLEY who came with him in the Mayflower Dec. 1620. From them are descended a numerous posterity. "Here was a godly man and an ancient professor in the ways of Christ. Hee was one of the first comers into this land and was the last man that was left of those that came over in the Shipp called the Mayflower that lived in Plymouth."3
