Charles H. Both was born in Mar 1861 at New York. (His death certificate lists his parents as Jacob Both and Elizabeth Miller.)2,3,4,5,6 He was the son of Jacob Both and Wilhelmina Miller.7 He married Elizabeth G. Zipfel, daughter of Joseph Zipfel, on 10 Aug 1881 at New York City, New York County, New York.7,8 Charles H. Both died on 30 Jan 1939 at Queens General Hospital, Queens County, New York, at age 77.9 He was buried at Flushing Cemetery, Flushing, Queens County, New York.9
He resided with Jacob Both and Wilhelmina Miller at Courtland Avenue, Westchester County, New York, in 1880.10,11 Charles was employed as a boat builder at College Point, Queens County, New York, fr 1880 - 1938.12,13,7,14,15 He and Elizabeth G. Zipfel lived at Jerome Avenue, at The Bronx, Bronx County, New York, in 1900. The Census record indicates that Charles owned his house free of mortgage.8 Charles H. Both and Elizabeth G. Zipfel lived at 63 6th Avenue, Queens County, New York, on 10 Apr 1910.16 William F. Both recalled his uncle Charles owning a boatyard in College Point, Queens, where he made small wooden boats of various types. Charles H. Both lived at College Point, Queens County, New York, in 1920. The Census record indicates that Charles owned his house free of mortgage.14 He and Elizabeth G. Zipfel lived at 63 22nd Avenue, Queens County, New York, in 1930.17 Listed with them was an adopted daughter named May Wood, age 12.1 Charles H. Both lived at 22-21 120th Street, College Point, Queens County, New York, until his death.9
