Irene's brother was a jeweler in West Chester, PA. Her mother was Frances Crozier, whose father, Jonathon, came from France and fought in the Revolutionary War. George, Joshua, and Margaret got the wanderlust, ran away, and joined the circus. Eventually they had a circus of their own: "Barton Bros. Circus". He was not sent to school for fear of catching tuiberculosis. It was genearally believed that being outside in the fresh air would prevent catching the disease.¹² Roland MacDonald Hill lived at Mammoth Road, Dracut, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, in 1917.¹³ He was stationed at Fort Devens, Massachusetts during World War I. He corresponded for a while with a cousin named Cassie (Catherine) McDonald who lived in Canada. She moved to western Canada and died a few years before Roland died.²⁶
